The Northwood Arts Center, Inc., is an independent, nonprofit organization. The purpose of NAC is to further the development of the arts and to enrich and enhance the cultural heritage of the people of our city and region. NAC’s parent organization, the Northwood Development Corporation, was created thirteen years ago for the purpose of overseeing, financing, and managing the development of the Northwood and Sandlerhill sections of our city.

NAC is an organization composed of three units: the Crandall Museum under the leadership of the director of the museum, the New Horizons Theatre under its artistic director, and the NAC staff and support services headed by the executive director. Both the museum and the theatre directors work with the executive director of NAC. In addition, the marketing director, development director, business manager, and education director serve both the museum and the theatre and report to the executive director.

A thirty-six-member Board of Trustees oversees NAC activities and programs. Seven of these board members are elected for three-year terms to the NAC Executive Committee. It is the Executive Committee, in conjunction with the center’s executive staff, that ensures that over two million people in our city are being properly served.

NAC’s responsibilities include financial management, the representation of the entire organization to the city and state, the negotiation and administration of union contracts at NAC, and the development and publicity for centerwide events. NAC also oversees the education programs involving the museum and theatre and their community outreach efforts. NAC formally applies for and receives all external funding. Contributions for grant awards not earmarked for specific activities are allocated on the basis of program needs.

NAC has been a wonderful addition to the cultural life of our city. We are proud of our accomplishments in the last decade and look forward to meeting the challenges of the future.
