Salim Manzar, FSA, MAAA, MS, MSc, BSc

Salim is an Executive Consultant with the Park Li Group.

Until recently, Salim was SVP & CFO of MetLife International, a $3 billion line of business within MetLife, Inc. In this position, he had responsibility for managing all financial aspects of the business. In addition, he was Officer-in-Charge of Planning, Business Development and Mergers & Acquisitions for MetLife International.

In his leadership role, Salim was instrumental in guiding the strategic direction of MetLife International, as well as strengthening the organizational integrity, effectiveness and controls of the business. Specific accomplishments include:

• Playing a key leadership role in growing the business by more than doubling the revenue and assets, increasing earnings from $30 million to over $200 million from 2001 to 2003, and positioning it for continued profitable growth.
• Leading initiatives for MetLife International’s entry into Chile via an acquisition, and acquisition of the largest life insurance company in Mexico.
• Leading MetLife’s joint-venture entry into China.
• Leading MetLife’s exit from non-viable or non-strategic operations in Poland, the Philippines and Spain.
• Steering MetLife Argentina effectively through the financial crisis.

Salim also served as Member of the Executive Governance Board for MetLife International, Chairman of the Board for MetLife India, President-Commissioner for MetLife Indonesia, and Member of the Board for MetLife Mexico.

Previously, as Global Head of Mergers & Acquisitions for MetLife, Salim was involved with the assessment of over 500 potential deals and completed over 20 transactions with an aggregate value exceeding $10 billion, including acquisitions, divestitures and joint-ventures of insurance, money-management and financial services related companies in the US, Canada, Latin & South America, Asia, and Europe.

Over his 30 year career at MetLife, Salim also served as CFO MetLife Brokerage; CFO MetLife Personal Annuities; and Vice President Internal Audit; as well as CFO of Great-West Life’s Pension business.

Salim is an accomplished business, insurance and finance executive. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and an Affiliate of the U. K. Institute of Actuaries. He received his MS degree from the University of Manitoba, Canada; and MSc & BSc degrees from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan.
